Wild Yankee Boy Basin Flowers

Dream in color.  Tonight will be bluest blue against white with sparkling yellow and diverse colors of green with fuchsia matched with pink and spilled against red topped with violet.  How do you feel when a dream comes true?  I had always wanted to see Yankee Boy Basin above Ouray, Colorado even though I did not know anyone who had ever been there.  It is like Pikes Peak, Lizard Rock, Long’s Peak.  Yankee Boy Basin is well known, both in and out of Colorado for its stunning beauty and descriptive name.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Proverbs 3:5

A jeep trail that climbs for 2-3 miles leads you through stunning valleys and follows a waterfall banquet.

The path climbs and levels out at least three times from where you park your car to walk the trail – unless you have a jeep.

Jeep Highway

We were constantly encouraged by the drivers that we were walking this road.  It was magnificent.  Cloudy.  Cool in hot July.  The people were so nice to us and offered us rides many times.  We kept putting one foot in front of the other.  Breathing hard at this altitude.

Moving forward with the words of our breakfast companions ringing in our ears,”We come here this time of the year every year, and the wildflowers have never, NEVER, been this good.”  We have to see this.

Man made structures from mining days were tumbling into the landscape.  Hard to live here.  Nature is unforgiving.

House collapsing into mountainside

And then you see it.  Just around the corner.  A few hopeful hints of color.  A new flower you have never seen before.  Not as many jeeps or ATV coming back down the road.  A quietness.

Yankee Boy Basin – surrounded on all sides by 14,000 foot peaks still draped in snow.  An amphitheater for God.  And He made all these flowers for their brief moment.  Humbling.  Grateful. Speechless.

When did you last have a dream or desire fulfilled?  What dream are you still dreaming?  Don’t stop hoping – He will give you the desires of your heart.
