Drip! Splash! Boom! No hike today as it is raining. For the first time in months, we have water washing the trees, flowers, patio and streets. You can imagine the tree leaves and trunk absorbing the moisture. I took my car out in the rain just to wash off the dust of months of dryness. Not a Texas size drought, but when you get very little rain for months, everything is dry. Brown. Dust covered. In my trip around my neighborhood getting my car washed, there were people everywhere sitting in their garages or on their porches. They were enjoying the storm and the subsequent coolness. I too came home and sat on a chair in my garage and listened.

Matt. 5:44-45 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Listen to the splash of the cars coming home to their garages after a day at work. Flash flood warnings scroll across the TV. The gutters overflow from the wetness. The thunder and lightning put on a show that rocks your house and frightens your dogs. It is better than a hike. Better than the dry brown dirt in the yard that will not grow anything but weeds. Dark skies, clouds roll and the shower continues to come. It will be sunny again, but enjoy the storm and the downpour that stops activity. Snuggle into the couch with a good book. Listen to the birds, open the windows and breathe the refreshing drink of cleansing water God has given us.
What do you do when it rains? When storms roll in your life, do you enjoy the time? When did you last watch it rain and marvel in God’s blessings?
