Christmas Time Memories

Psalms 23 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not be in want.  Christmas today is led by the list of “wants”.  I want my family together.  I want a bicycle.  I want the church service to be what I remember from childhood.  I want it not to be so commercialized.  I want ‘Merry Christmas’ to be said not ‘Happy Holidays’.

He guides me in path of righteousness Christmas is the gift of rightness from our God.  A child.  Humble.  Small and looking insignificant.  Like us.  But god-man, King, Mighty God and Prince of Peace.

Leads me beside quiet and refreshing waters Christmas is a time to lead and be led in busyness by others and demands and our desire to find quiet times of refreshing.

Even if I walk through the darkest valley I will not fear.  Christmas can be a time of great loneliness and sadness.  Our expectations are never met.  Our regrets can be from past decisions and situations.  Children are separated at a time when family receives more focus.

I am comforted by You.  Christmas is a time of extreme comfort of memories, traditions, old ornaments, cards sent from friends, and get-togethers to exchange gifts.

You prepare and anoint me.  Christmas requires much preparation.  Lists, decorations, shopping, musician practice, cooking, baking, buying and wrapping are just a few things we do in advance.  Christmas anoints us with smells, sights, sounds, and touch of a unique season of celebration.

I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Christmas is God’s gift to us of a Saviour who saves us and forgives our sins and brings us to dwell with God forever.

What traditions do you keep year after year?  Who do you reach out to that might be lonely during this season? What comfort do you find in your memories?  What was your most memorable gift?
