Happiness is an Elephant

Numbers 12: 5-6 “Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward,  he said, “Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you,  I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.’”(NIV)

My greatest wish was to live to 60 years old and ride Asian elephants in Asia. My elephant’s name was “Happiness” in Chinese.  There was a Wild Animal Park south of Shanghai, China about one hour drive where you can ride elephants.

We waited a long 30 minutes before the elephants were ready for the five minute ride. The elephant was brushed to remove any straw from rolling in the dirt. I climbed up the platform and mounted this giant creature.  I cried when I touched the harsh hair on the wrinkled skin of that dream elephant.  I had dreamed of this moment for so long. Why?  I have no idea why this was my dream.  Why not two rides for ten minutes and $14?  I never thought about it until we left.

We stopped at Nanking Road for cold medicine, which cleared me up quickly.   Getting it was a challenge.  Now it was time to try the subway from Peoples Park to Railway station.  No problem until we came above ground.  Hot, tired and lost.  Not the dream ending to my day of dreams – but I slept smiling remembering “Happiness”.

What dreams are you pursuing?  How has God answered a dream for your life?  Is your life going according to your plan or God’s design?  How would you know?
