Why do they do that?

The Midwest hiking Blogger I follow suggested the destination of Bayfield, Wisconsin. What a beautiful small town on the shore of Lake Superior! Bed and Breakfasts, stores, churches all hugged the protected bay. Covid precautions were strongly encouraged in this remote town – masks, sanitizer everywhere, dining outside, and social distancing.

We decided to visit one of the Apostle Islands – Madeline Island, which required a ferry trip from Bayfield. The museum on the island was very limited with number of allowed visitors, so we walked the island instead. If you have more time you can kayak Lake Superior and enjoy some of the other smaller Apostle Islands. When they were discovered, there were twelve islands found, therefore, the name Apostle Islands.

Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him. Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. Mark 3:13-14 NLT

We began to see the large fake animals that would follow us throughout Wisconsin. This one was a huge moose hidden on a side road. Later, we saw a giant wolf.

We hiked up a road, through a park in unbelievable heat and humidity for about 4 miles.

What weird things have you seen when you traveled?

As we returned to the little town, I had to take a phone call and was amazed there was cell coverage, so we recovered in the shade.  There were only a couple restaurants open. Everyone was ordering and then sitting outside of the one small restaurant waiting in family groups for their food. What will they do in winter with Covid?

Back in Bayfield – we did a little shopping. I wanted the sweatshirt that said “Lake Superior- No Sharks, No Salt, No Problems“. I had to get my refrigerator magnet for the Apostle Islands as well.

Do you collect anything from your travels? What things does your family collect? Why?

Why are these by the Road?

Heading south, we went through the farmlands on small rural roads. We visited a true Wisconsin bar. The people here like large fake animals in their yards. Why? That is the joy of travel – learning and asking why?

Why?
