Fish Creek?

Fish Creek Falls – what a name. I do not see how any fish would survive the falls or the rapidly flowing creek. It was cool and dark in the shadows of the mountain walls. It is 165 foot falls which is big in Colorado.

This walk is “one of the most popular” in Steamboat Springs, CO. It has handicapped paved trails, overly busy paid parking lots, and masked hikers everywhere.

“The birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:8-9

There was a Plein Air painting competition and one painter was set up in the shadow of the Falls on the bridge.  Later in the week, I saw his painting at the Museum. Once you cross the bridge, you can head up the mountain toward Long Lake on a several miles trail.

It was a very steep trail and the trails to the top of the falls were closed. Old Growth Aspen grove about 2 miles on the path was breathtaking and where we decided to turn around. It was a climb. A climb.

What time of the year do you like to hike? What things make you stop in ‘wonder’?

On the way back to Steamboat, we stopped at Elk River and enjoyed the sound of the water, the vibrant colors, and the coolness of a fall afternoon in the low sun with a few other travelers.
