Breathing Water

Walking in Florida is like breathing water. The cloying humidity requires us to get up and be done with any mileage walks by 8:30 am. The afternoon thunderstorms were quite impressive and the humidity increased as the day heated. We were there for a Memorial service in late July 2021, and had a day to walk the neighborhood and view the interesting plants and animals.

What do you look for when you are in a totally different climate? How do you compare the temperature, greenery, and weather? Have you visited unique Florida?

I do not think I have ever been accompanied on my walk by birds. They were strolling the neighborhood, picking at the plants and grass.

People stick orchids in their mature trees and tie them onto the trunk. After a few years, the orchids become a part of the tree and live as a parasite sharing their beauty for all.

Summer only plants or houseplants in Colorado are tree-like in South Florida. The landscaping creativity of mixing and matching color was a delight even if I did not know the names of most of the flowers and bushes.

I know the sign says ‘Furini’, but it was close enough to fire and by then we were burning up with the heat and sweat and headed home.

“For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity .I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.” Psalms 32:4-5 NIV

Lizards with curled tails reminded us of scorpions. Big scorpions. Luckily, on this trip I did not see any alligators and that is quite all right with me. Someone asked us when we were moving to Florida. My husband answered, “Two words: Nev…ver…”  There is a beauty to south Florida, but we prefer the coolness of a Colorado perfect summer.
